Week 49: Advent

Sunday, Dec. 1st- Saturday, Dec. 7th

So excited about the start of advent! We are not planning on doing something everyday this year due to the nature of our schedule and the age of the boys, but here's the plan.

We are using Truth in the Tinsel and I've adapted it from 24 days to 14 for our purposes. My goal this year is to get the boys excited about Jesus' birthday (because this is a concept that they can grasp) and understand the important "characters" of the Christmas nativity.

Here's the set-up:

Levi is so excited to find out what the "secret" is in each bag. In the bag are all the pieces of an ornament that we will make to hang on the tree to tell the Christmas story.

We had a crazy Sunday and both boys are sick so we didn't get it opened until late Sunday night. So here it is:

Day 1: The Light
Scripture: Isaiah 9:2-7
Concept: Jesus is the Light of the World.

Levi was pretty fascinated by this. I turned the lights out and began reading the verses and when it came to the part where it said "the people have seen a great light", we lit the candle and listened to the rest of it. Then we did our first Christmas ornament, the tissue paper candle.

He's pretty proud of it.

Talking about these complex ideas with a 3 year old can get a bit overwhelming but I always try to have one simple idea that Levi can literally repeat over and over again that brings it down to his level.

Here it is:

Translation for those of you who don't speak 3 year-old:

"Jesus is the Light of the World."

Monday:

Look how different these boys are, one plays with cars and trucks the other pretend food! Haha!

I caught Si with a book pretending to read in the hallway, he was actually saying some of the words on the page already (obviously just from memory). This is just amazing, watching these tiny minds learn is fascinating!

It's that time of year again! The boys dancing around the Christmas tree!

Levi trying to figure out where to put his ornament he made yesterday. This year the tree is only going to have ornaments the boys make.

Day 2: Gabriel
Scripture: Luke 1:26-38
Concept: Nothing is impossible with God

Translation: Nothing is impossible with God!

We are also putting the "pieces" of the Little People Nativity in the bag too. Gabriel has made his appearance and right now is all alone on the table next to the tree. Si loves this part!

Tuesday:

Day 3: Mary
Scripture: Luke 1:5-25 (Used the Jesus Storybook Bible story on Mary instead)
Idea: I am God's servant.

Here's Daddy and Levi acting out this part of the story after listening to the Bible story and getting Mary out of the bag.

Then Si got a hold of them and the first thing he had them do was kiss, made the kissing sound and everything! Haha! Funny kid!

Then it was time to make the craft. This one did not hold Levi's attention at all, it was a harder one and I didn't have the hot glue gun ready, but he did help a bit, but Daddy ended up doing all the work. He's a good sport!

Levi put Mary on the very last light of the tree!

Wednesday:

It's beginning to look a lot like...

SPRING again!

But hey, we'll take it!

Playing tag with Mommy:

The boys love hiding in the Clubhouse and pretending to work in the garden, that is get completely covered in dirt!

Day 4:  Joseph
Scripture: Matthew 1:18-24 (Used a Children's Bible instead called My First Bible)
Concept: Do not be afraid; Joseph obeyed.

Forgot to take a pic of this craft, but it was done the same as Mary yesterday. Levi did this one a lot more himself. Here's a little video of him putting the Christmas characters together:

Thursday:

Silly boy:

Levi is helping his brother, he is in the stage where he likes to tell me how strong he is, he's the big brother and look at his muscles!:)

I taught my last college class tonight for the semester. It was a wonderful bunch of young ladies, but I am glad to now have Thursday nights with my little family!

Friday:

Busy day.

Round 1: work; market; Chick-fil-a; then back home for a nap (not Mommy though)

Round 2: Carted the kids around all of Beckley while we did some Christmas shopping, shew, that is hard work! Then drove around town and looked at Christmas lights, so fun!

Saturday:

Hanging out while Daddy went hunting this morning. We love the new free app Bible for Kids, it's great!

Then back out for some more Christmas shopping:

Si hanging out with Daddy at Lowe's.

Mommy put Si's hood up the wrong way. Haha!

Then off to the Christmas concert at the Bible College. The kids always enjoy walking around the dorms afterwards looking at all the Christmas decorations. Here is the Polar Express:

What a fun-filled week! Blessings abound~
