Week 40

Sunday, Sept. 29th- Saturday, Oct. 5th

Cannot believe September is over, but it's my favorite month, October. Love the smells and sights of fall!

We Choose Virtues: Week 2:

Kindness

Here's the plan this week:

Monday: Introduce the new concept after mommy gets home from work with visuals. Make Sail Banners...we are Sailing into Kindness this week:) This idea was adapted from Kids of Integrity.

This is how ours turned out:

The banners did not start in the vase, but just on the counter. When the boys show an act of kindness Mommy makes a big deal about putting it in the vase. Now, from this point if they continue to show acts of kindness they can earn stickers on the banner, but demonstrating the opposite means the sail or banner is taken down and placed back on the counter, this is done with much sadness.:)

So far, this method of rewarding and punishing has been really effective for Levi and Si seems to be picking up on it too!

The kettle goes with the kindness card, Kettle Gretel, my mom had this one so it's hanging out at our house this week.  This is our Kindness Kettle and inside our lots of ideas for us to do this week:

~Give your brother a hug.
~Do a chore for Mommy.
~Say a kind word to someone.
~Help someone in need
~Make a card for a friend
~Give something away

These are just a few examples.

Our first act of kindness we did tonight! Daddy was gone today so we ordered delivery and shared a candy bar with our delivery guy, told him, "thank you" and "have a nice day". This was hard for Levi, but I was proud of him, he did it right away.

Tuesday: Review visuals, pick out of the Kindness Kettle, read story of the Good Samaratian.
So yes, maybe Mommy is rigging the Kindness Kettle a bit:) The Bible Story was about helping someone in need and so was our pick from Kindness Kettle!

We baked some banana bread for Grandma Bell and went and raked some leaves. It was a fun night and the both boys worked hard.

Wednesday: Read about Naaman and the servant girl, how we should be kind even if someone isn't kind to us, be a peacemaker. This is especially true with the the boys right now; even if your brother is mean to you, doesn't mean you should slug him back!;)

Here they are are during a sweet moment today:

Thursday: We have also talked about how we are to be kind to animals and God's creation. I always pull out the Bible verse Proverbs 12:10- "A righteous man takes care of his animals."

Another tweek we did this week was make the Bible verse a little simpler for my boys. We just kept it simple using Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind one to another".
We sang it like this:

Friday: Off to Gee's house for the evening. Levi was playing and said, "I love this house" (referring to my mom's), "it's like a big playhouse"! Haha!

Levi showed kindness to Gee by bringing her a flower. I love when he does this stuff unprompted, it's just from his own heart.:)

This little guy is showing some great skill with the soccer ball. I think soccer games are in our near future!

Saturday: Finally, made the pumpkin patch happen today! It didn't feel much like a fall day at 80 degrees, but hey, we'll take it! It was a fabulous day!

Playing in the corn-box...

Bouncy Houses, rather reluctantly, but he did it.

Climbing Haystacks...

Time for pumpkins:

They (the pumpkins) made it safely home:
